The 2010 soccer season kicked off for Royse City High School with victories by both the boys and girls teams. Some may not know that Royse City ISD has a soccer team, or two, or make that four teams. About four years ago, there was an interest to field a competitive women’s and men’s high school soccer league. Those leagues have come into fruition and have been very competitive to say the least.
Royse City ISD Stadium has found another use as the Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs have fielded their second season of University Interscholastic League sponsored soccer.
The first year was a learning experience for the Bulldog squads, however after that first season the Bulldogs are making themselves known and respected. Head Coach Chad Lancaster is elated with his team’s progress early in the season. Lancaster said, “We are new to soccer and we are still a very young team. We have 5 freshmen on this year’s varsity squad. However, I believe we are much better than last year and we should continue to improve.”
Improve they did, as they knocked off the North Forney Falcons 4-1 in their 2010 home debut. The boys soccer team found a plethora of scorers as well as defenders. Bryan Romero kicked off the season with the first goal as he was assisted by Logan Humphries to give the Bulldogs the early 1-0 lead. Romero then assisted Sean Pollock, as Pollock kicked in the second goal of the young season. Logan Humphries then took two to the net and scored his first two points of the season unassisted.
Goal Keeper Forrest Elahi (pronounced Eli), kept the Falcons out of goal allowing only one goal on seven shots. Elahi had six saves in the game.
Saturday, the boys soccer team kept a high scoring Terrell Tiger team somewhat subdued. Although there are no details to the game, the Bulldogs did suffer a 3-0 loss to one of the stronger teams in the area.
The Lady Bulldogs were defeated 16-0 last year by the Lady Tigers of Terrell, but this year was a much different story. Head girls coach Shelby Henry acknowledged that Terrell would be a much harder opponent to play, but she said, “We are ready! The girls have been practicing hard and improving everyday.” The results of that game are also not available, however we understand it was a very close game.
The Lady Bulldogs were fresh off of a win over Eustace in the Eustace tournament. The Lady Bulldogs place third in the tourney. Coach Henry stated, “Coming off of a good win like that, the girls were all excited and were ready to start district play.” Kaylee Dusek was named MVP of the team and she also made the All-Tournament team.
Following the tournament the Lady Bulldogs hosted North Forney and the Ladies pounded the Lady Falcons with 43 shots on goal. Two of those were goals and they were scored by sophomore Jolee Patterson with assists from Megan Frauendorfer and Kaylie Daniels.
North Forney scored one goal in the contest as the Lady Bulldogs captured another victory with the 2-1 win over the Lady Falcons. Goal Keeper Dusek had four saves in the goal.
The Varsity boys and girls teams hosted Quinlan Ford Tuesday night and the boys Junior Varsity and Varsity teams will host Mesquite Poteet Friday night while the girls JV and Varsity will travel to Mesquite Poteet. JV games kick off at 5:30 p.m., while Varsity games follow at approximately 7:15 p.m..

Royse City kicks off football season against Poteet on Friday
Last season the Royse City Bulldogs kicked off their season with what you might call ‘graduation dehydration’. In just their second season as a Class 4A high school football program, in one of the most respected districts in the state, they were also trying to make adjustments after losing 34 seniors to graduation. But there was never an excuse heard, or a discouraging remark made, just another season of hard work that eventually paid off in the end.
