Rockwall County — Larry Fitzgerald, the winner of six gold medals in the Nevada Police and Fire Games, already is planning for next year’s competition.

“There’s a lot people gunning for me,” said Fitzgerald, a Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office detention officer. “I’ve got to train harder. I’ve got to get better and faster before next year.”

Fitzgerald brought home gold medals in the 100, 200 and 400 meter races, long jump and high jump in the junior division for law enforcement personnel between the ages of 19 and 29.

He also was recognized as the outstanding track and field athlete in his division.

The Nevada Police and Fire Games, which he said also is known as the International Police Games, were held Aug. 10-11 in Las Vegas.

In the Texas Police Games last June, Fitzgerald brought home gold, silver and bronze medals in five track and field events.

Fitzgerald’s trip to the event was sponsored by the Rockwall County Sheriff’s Association.
