Royse City —
The threat of West Nile virus has prompted city officials to initiate a comprehensive mosquito abatement program that includes spraying throughout the city on four consecutive Tuesday nights.
Spraying started this week.
The program will consist of identifying and treating stagnant bodies of water, coupled with spraying.
“Currently, no confirmed cases of West Nile virus have been found within the City of Royse City,” Joint Acting City Manager Carl Alsabrook said in a news release issued Monday. “It is our belief through the use of a comprehensive abatement program, those health-related risks can be minimized.”
On Tuesday, Omniserve Pest Management began truck-based spraying treatments.
The upcoming spraying is scheduled for Aug. 28 and Sept. 4. Spraying will begin at 8:30 p.m. and end about 1 a.m. Spraying will begin south of Interstate 30.
Omniserve is using Aqueous and jetstream water-based contact insecticide. Even though the chemicals are reportedly harmless to humans and pets, city officials are recommending that residents stay inside 30-45 minutes after application.
