Number of superintendent candidates reaches 17

Royse City — Randy Hancock reported that 17 candidates have submitted applications for the Royse City Independent School District superintendent’s position that will become vacant when he retires on June 30.

And there could be eight or 10 more candidates added to the list before the deadline for applications. The deadline originally was Feb. 3, but the school board later extended the deadline to Feb. 10.

“There’s a lot of interest,” Hancock said of the number of candidates.

Hancock said he is helping with the process, setting up electronic files for each candidate.

A timeline lists Feb. 20-24 for initial interviews and Feb. 27 through March 2 for follow-up interviews. The schedule calls for the board to name a lone finalist on March 5 and then vote to hire the new superintendent on March 27.

The school district is searching for candidates who have a master’s degree, superintendent certification, superintendent experience, strong organizational skills, strong people skills and effective leadership skills.

On Nov. 14, Hancock informed the school board of his retirement plans. Hancock, 55, has been Royse City ISD superintendent since 2007.

School board members voted unanimously on Dec. 12 to accept Hancock’s resignation/retirement, effective June 30.
