Fireworks prohibited in Royse City limits

ROYSE CITY — The Royse City Police Departments wants to remind New Year’s revelers that fireworks are prohibited in the city limits.

City ordinance prohibits fireworks, defined as “any substance intended for use in visual or audible pyrotechnic display and is illustrated, but not limited to, the following: firecrackers, skyrockets, Roman candles, sparklers and torpedoes.”

Violation of the ordinance is punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.

Police Chief Carl Alsabrook said officers who respond to fireworks calls have a choice — confiscate the fireworks or issue a citation.

During the New Year’s holiday period, the police chief said, officers usually are busy responding to fireworks and noise complaints, along with alcohol-related offenses. Royse City firefighters will assist with fireworks calls, Alsabrook said.

Alsabrook urged residents to call the police department with complaints involving fireworks or any other New Year’s celebration concerns.
